Baby Giovani Rolando

I always joke with my girls that no matter what we did as kids, my grandma knew someone that died doing the same thing.  We always discounted it as grandma being a worrier, but as I research family stories, I am amazed at the things that my family endured.

Dominick and Paterson Rolando (Grandma Mary’s parents) moved to Butte soon after they married.  Dominick had gotten his citizenship papers in November, and married Paterson on Christmas Eve 1894 in Cherokee Kansas.

They moved to Butte and had a son Peter (Pietro) in 1896 who died within the year.  Their second son was James Roy, born in 1898, soon followed by John Edward (Giovani) in 1900.  The story of John is told in the article below.  How sad to lose two of your first three children so young.

The boys are buried in the Babyland section of St. Patricks Cemetary in Butte in unmarked graves.  My brother, Bill took a photo of the area where they were buried.

Bill also found the original records of the inquest at the Butte Archives, you can scroll through it below.
